1. Discover Night Market
The daily night market is a must-visit place for tourists in Luang Prabang. Here you can buy souvenirs, craft and silverware. After tasting all good food at Villa Maly, the night market is also a great place to try BBQ river fish, noodles, and other street food.
2. Taste wine in Whisky Village
Known as Ban Xang Hai, this Lao village is on way to Pak Ou Caves. The local whiskey or Lao Lao is made with all sorts of snakes, insects mixed with the whiskey and sold in various shaped bottles. You can also buy Lao silk and other crafts at the village.
3. Try Elephant Riding
The Elephant Park Project Area is located about 15 km out of town and in the middle of a mountainous surrounding. An easy 3-hour trekking will lead you out into a local Kamu village where you get an overview of daily life and culture of this ethnic minority.
4. Visit Royal Palace Museum
If you are interested in Villa Maly architecture, you will also like the Royal Palace which was built in 1909 during French colonization to house King Sisavang Vong and the royal family. In 1975, it was converted into a museum consisting of several buildings with ancient art and important artifacts.
5. Explore the Chompet
You can take a boat across the Mekong to the small village of Chompet. Unlike Luang Prabang, Chompet is a peaceful place to observe village life for a day. A few small temples and a miniature version of the Pak Ou Caves make the short excursion to Chompet worth the effort
